CYCLING IN MARAS/MORAY

This mountain bike ride has it all, from unique Inca site to stunning mountain views, quite flat farmland trails to blazing fast single track whether expert or beginner, this is one day’s biking you will never forget. Bike Maras/Moray is one of the classic of Mountain Biking in Peru, fantastic views, fast descents and fascinating insights into local Culture make this a day you will remember. Do not worry, you do not have to be an ace racer to enjoy it. Your expert Guide will show you all you need to know and with the help of the front suspension bikes you will be cruising the trails in no time. A short drive takes you to the start point amongst the fields of the Chinchero plateau. Potatoes, Corn, Beans, Quinoa and Kiwicha combine their colours to lend a patchwork effect to this very traditional agricultural area. With a constant backdrop of the snow capped Urubamba range, this is a photographer’s dream.

The rising stars gently on mainly flat trails, soon, a few small uphills punctuate the route to Moray where you can jump off the bikes and visit these unique Inca site, very different from anything else you will see, the concentric circle terracing is thought to have been used as an early agricultural laboratory. The different depths and aspects allowed by the circular terracing helped the Incas predict what crops might grow here. Lunch, and after, it is all down hill of fantastic single track, while some parts are tricky, with the help and encouragement of the Guide you will arrive at the salt pants of Maras, still mined by hand you could even take some home as a souvenir. Then, we take you back to Cusco or a hotel in the valley.
